About Me.

My name is Alistair Wise and I would like to thank you for dropping by.

Most of my adult life I have had at least one dog as a companion. Using traditional training methods I had varied degrees of success in terms of these dogs' behaviour, depending on time and effort spent and more importantly, as I now know,  their personality.

When I first came across the work of Jan Fennell I had a pack of three dogs. In terms of behaviour these dogs collectively were reasonable. Not where I would have liked, but I had grudgingly accepted that it was as good as it was going to get with the time, resources and knowledge I had available.

I first saw Jan's work on the BBC show The Dog Listener. While I understand that the editing crew can distort reality, it quickly became apparent that Jan was onto something that the rest of us were missing by a mile. After watching a number of these programs I just had to get her book The Dog Listener.

Animal behaviour has always fascinated me, whatever the animal. I can literally spend hours just observing animals. As I was reading Jan's book I found much of what she described as familiar - behaviours that I had observed, but just did not understand the meaning or importance of. Now the puzzle was starting to come together and so many things began to make sense. I would often find myself thinking "Oh that's Tiny to a T", "Yeah, Jessie does that", or similar. In fact as I read the book it became apparent that my view on who was higher in the pecking order of these dogs was wrong. According to what I was reading, the dog whom I had figured to be at the bottom, was in fact sitting on the throne. Once I started putting Jan's method into practice I could see that this was indeed the case. She was, and still is, the hardest to convince to accept my leadership.

The transformation that came over my dogs, though, was amazing

I can be as sceptical as the next person, probably more more so. I also like to think that I can recognise a good thing when I see it, even it means that my current beliefs have to be reassessed. Now I had something that to me was was logical, natural and importantly, got to the root cause of behavioural problems and simply worked.

In November 2007 I travelled to Melbourne to attend the Foundation Course In Canine Communication run by Jan Fennell. I was invited to attend an advanced course and again travelled to Melbourne in May 2008 to do so.

I can now teach, those with an open mind and who have their dogs' best interests at heart, Amichien Bonding.

Regards
Alistair Wise
